Geese! I don't think i've ever walked past a geese NOT in fear. They're intimidating looking fellas.

They can be quite scary! Thankfully these guys don't seem to give a hoot (or a honk?!) about us. I think it's mostly when they're nesting you need to worry about them getting aggressive but I'd avoid getting too close just in case...

When I visited Scotland (from Canada) for the first time this spring I saw Canadian geese at Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh and was like, HEY! What are YOU guys doing here!? Haha

The sound of geese flying overhead is my favourite sound at this time of year and there’s so much I didn’t know about them! Thank you for sharing these facts Zabby, and your haikus ✨

Round here (Dumfries) we are lucky enough to see masses of barnacle geese, which all take the long journey here from Svalbard to spend a warmer winter. As they fly overhead they sound like a troop of yapping jack russells! My favourite facts about them are these:- in Scotland, the geese feed on the salt-marshes of the Solway Firth, in the Arctic, the geese feed and breed on rocky outcrops living off the tundra mosses and liverworts. Barnacle geese droppings provide a source of food for reindeer. Yum yum...!
