We have a new mystery bird in our garden seen three times but we think it could be a willow warbler, not been quick enough to take pics yet! I’ve been keeping a very loose notebook of all the wildlife we’ve seen in our garden this year and that takes us up to around 13 different species of bird I think. 😊🐦

Oh that's great about the notebook! And how lovely if you have a willow warbler. Is it still around or has it migrated? They look quite similar to chiffchaffs I think, but if you're able to record its song that should help you ID it.

Yeah that's what we're not sure about, there was a definite green colour to it, do chiffchaffs have this? Bow down to your knowledge, I'm still very much an enthusiastic novice!

Yes they are often described as green-brown though I'd say they're not always noticeably green... And willow warblers are much the same colour. If you continue to see it into October I'd say it's more likely to be a chiffchaff - both are migratory but more and more chiffchaffs seem to overwinter here. I'm definitely an enthusiastic novice too... But with a chiffchaff-obsessed mum!

Ooh good tip I will keep an eye out to see if it hangs around longer. Yay to nature knowledgeable mums!

Actually laughing out loud at those pigeon nests :'D Thanks for the morning giggle.

Ooh I'm grateful for your prompts as ever, Zabby! Thank you.

The woodpecker was back at the feeder yesterday.

I also noticed a mini murm of starlings all clustering onto a street lamp on the way to work yesterday. I was amazed at how many could fit onto such a small object!

I'm going to look out for the Harvest Moon today and in general I feel like this will be the first year ever when I'm actually tuning into autumn properly. I'm looking forward to noticing and learning.

Haha yes the starlings can be quite comedic shuffling up to make room for others! And those pigeon nests always make me laugh.

That's greta about the woodpecker... I need to try and entice some to mine.

Ooooh have a lovely autumn - I bet it's spectacular where you are. Autumn makes me miss living near the woods, so I will be trying to make some special trips to woodland over the next couple of months!
