What a coincidence - I took home a stick today which was part of a branch cut from a tree and just left lying on the ground. Despite it having been cut a while ago it was in bud! Obviously I had to take it back and see what it turns into (if I'm lucky). I suspect it's hazel, but need to brave the weather to check 'my' hedgerow and see if I'm right. Keep watching all those beautiful buds...
Ahh thank you, Zabby, for the mention! I couldn’t agree more about the importance of properly noticing things, and of bearing witness to them changing through the year. I’m scrutinising every bud in my garden every day right now because I’m too impatient for everything to come out, but it would be lovely to try and sketch them and have that record.
