We have Swifts in the village where I live in West Suffolk but sadly they get fewer and fewer each year.

Let's hope some locals put up some boxes for them!

I'm loving learning from your posts, Zabby. Thank you. I'm going to listen out for the swifts' screams. I'm sure there are some around here.

Thanks Janelle! Let me know if you see any where you are.

There's nothing like having a swift screech above your head as you cross the yard to clean a cottage... it makes my day every time!

Me too! But without the cottage cleaning bit!

Love this. We’ve just bought a ramshackle old place in Normandy and are spending a few weeks here for the first time. One of the pleasures has been listening to the birdsong and using the amazing Merlin Bird ID app to work out what they all are.

Oh wow, how exciting! What have you identified so far? Swifts are easy to ID from their screams at least. I still struggle with identifying so many songs, I am grateful for the apps.

Warblers, chiffchaffs, blackbirds, great tits, tawny owl, wagtails, thrush. Then we have storks nesting nearby too ❤️

Fab! Nesting storks is very cool, I don't know if I have ever seen a stork (definitely not in the wild!). I miss hearing the tawny owl that lived near us in south London... but the swifts make up for it!
