This Spring, Edinburgh evenings have been full of blackbird song, even more than usual it seems. Lovely birds with one of the most beautiful songs of any British bird.

Gorgeous sounds on that video. I am just about to start exploring recording nature sounds, as well as some walk + talk coaching for podcast episodes. We had robins nesting in our hedge and it got attacked at the weekend. So heartbreaking 💔

Ohhh sorry to hear about your robin friends. My dad was pretty gutted about 'his' blackbirds I think. Walk and talk coaching is such a brilliant idea, hope it goes well.

We have a blackbird nest in our garden! It’s so neat and perfect-looking, tucked into a hedge just at the edge of our deck. When I first spotted it, I could see the three eggs in it but since then every time I’ve been out there the mum has been sitting on it - I try to give it a wide a berth as possible as I pass, and she looks at me like ‘yeah keep it moving’ 😄 Really hoping that the chicks make it!

Fingers crossed for the blackbirds in your garden! It's such a privilege to have a bird family move in isn't it?

Yes! We think there’s another one at the top of a big tree at the end of our garden - fingers crossed for both!

Great post Zabby! Thanks for the links too….. some interesting stuff there.

The Beatles version gets my vote 🎶

I’m lucky enough to see Blackbirds in my own garden, the male visits more frequently than the female.

At 6pm he sings his socks off 😁. So beautiful.

He’s enjoying my raspberries too, it’s fascinating watching his performance, all carefully thought out, so aware of his surroundings.
