Before I launched this newsletter I shared a ‘Noticing Nature Starter Pack’ in issue 29 of The Happy Newspaper, perhaps that’s what brought you here?
Since I’m busy editing issue 31 of The Happy Newspaper at the moment (and I’ve completely run out of time to write this week’s email) I thought I’d re-share the article from issue 29 here, along with some additional links to help you notice and connect with nature.
If you need some good news in your life (I think we all do right now!), subscriptions are open until 25th August for the Learn issue of The Happy Newspaper.
Links & Resources
Embrace (and eat!) weeds: Here’s an article from The Woodland Trust, featuring seven edible weeds and here’s a great book about embracing weeds in your garden* by Jack Wallington of
Coo over clouds: The recent rains have brought some pretty spectacular clouds! But what kind of clouds are they? This article will help you ID them.
Join in with #CouchTo10Mosses: I highly recommend following Lief Bersweden if you’re into wild plants. This year he brought back his #CouchTo10Mosses challenge, in which he introduced us to ten bryophytes and encouraged us to go out and look for them. Here’s a mossy good news story we’re popping in the next issue of The Happy News too!
Become fascinated with fungi: Check out mushroomdiary.co.uk to find out what fungi you might find at the moment. Check out London Fungus Network and get tickets to All Things Fungi Fest in West Sussex this September.
Learn the song or call of at least one bird: Lucy Lapwing’s videos are a great place to start with this! My fave ID app for birds is BirdNET but I mention some others in the article above.
ID a tree: Download the Woodland Trust’s free Tree ID app or watch this video on YouTube to get you started!
And there you have it, a Noticing Nature Starter Pack! Is there anything else you’d include? Let me know in the comments!
Don’t forget to subscribe to The Happy Newspaper for more good news (I don’t receive any payment for sending you their way, I am merely the editor!).
