Are you looking for a platform to share your nature writing? Or is there a plant you wish more people would notice. Perhaps you are passionate about a nature cause you need more people to fight for? Has nature helped you in ways you never imagined possible? Maybe you’d just like to share some special sightings…
If so, I’d love to hear from you!
I’m keen for this space to be collaborative, especially since I can only give you the perspective of someone based in the south east of England. I know there are some brilliant and knowledgeable people subscribed to this newsletter, so if you’re interested in writing a one-off guest post, becoming a regional correspondent or perhaps even recording some audio for the newsletter, please reply to this email!Â
Share your sightings
Today I’ll be starting our first monthly Nature Chat (using the chat function on the Substack app). Please look out for it and share something you’ve noticed or connected with in nature this April.
Tree Walk
I’m excited to say I’ve been working on setting up a biodiversity not-for-profit group in south London (I’ll share more on this later in the year). We’re called Wild South London Community and our first event will be a tree walk in my beloved Beckenham Place Park on Sunday 21st May. You can sign up for free tickets now on eventbrite.
Beltane blessings
This evening sees the start of Beltane, a festival celebrating the peak of spring and the beginning of summer. Read more about Beltane, including some ways you can celebrate, in this blog post by Jen from Life Aligned. I’ll be celebrating by walking and eating nettle cake with friends!
Ooh, and while we’re here… don’t forget No Mow May starts on Monday!
Hope to see you in the chat later today!
Zabby
Hi Zabby. I've been umming and ahh-ing about going to this 4.45am dawn chorus guided walk at Brockholes Nature Reserve next weekend. I feel that your invitation here might be a nudge for me to go and maybe write something about it? I have no idea what to expect and I'm an absolute nature novice! But, I could keep you posted?
