This really resonates. Back in 2017/8 I was temporarily barely employed and with my spare time put up a poster in our local library asking if anyone was interested in setting up a nature group. This led to meeting some brilliant people and setting up Wild about Nature Dinas Powys. It’s very small and really we do very little but it’s been great to meet like minded people, have improved various green spaces a little for nature and do our small bit. It’s been so easy although it’s made easier by the fact that I only need to work part time so I have time to devote to voluntary work and we have about 5-6 key committee members. Linked to cinnabar moths - I examine ragwort all the time & haven’t seen caterpillars for years but in our WANDP WhatsApp group one of our supporters has caterpillars on her ragwort - she’s not far from me do I’m hoping they’ll find my ragwort before too long!
I ran an event at the weekend for one of my local naturalist groups - wonder if you might guess what it was about. I am also a trustee of the British Naturalist Association so I know how much work goes into it. My next sessions to plan for are in September one locally and one at the Natural History Museum.

Your group sounds great! I can empathise with the mididentifying something in front of a nature group you're facilitating, it happened to me too, and i was very embarrassed!
I've seen very few Cinnabar moth caterpillars this year, too many landowners like to remove the ragwort.
